2013 in fast forward and a preview for 2014

Posted on 06 Januar 2014

The year 2013 started like most of the years before with warm and rainy period and a big flood on all our rivers. We go such much water that it was too dangers for packrafting trips. Only on few days we had a bit of snow, but it was not really much that I could have gone on a backcountry ski or snowshoe trip. So it was only time for some overnighter or day trips.

Instead of staying at home I visited the UL Community Winter Meeting in the Harz mountains. There was a bit of snow and some cold temps and it was a pleasure to meet all these people from our community again.

The snow conditions in the mid of Germany are really bad, because we are living in a really flat area. Either we are getting a big batch of snow for two or three weeks or we are getting not snow, but temps down to -20°C. Both options are bad and if I could choose I would take a mixture of both. While there was no snow until March I decided to visit the snow. Where can you do this better than in the Engadine. I made a very nice trip with Anatol in the Engadine mountains and this for the first time on skis.

While spring started in my area after this trip I had no desire to post something about the trip, but it is in the line and waits for a release. Again this was a really busy year for because I have a full time shift work job and I have a small farm. So my next hightlight of the year was in July.
Before I went to the Outdoor Show in Friedrichshafen I made a SUL trip in the Karwendel with good friends. The reason why this trip report is not online is that we could test a prototype pack from LAUFBURSCHE. This Pack is on lots of photos so I was not allowed photos before the release. Now the PACKsack is in the shop and I can release some more photos of the prototype pack and maybe a report.

Directly from the Alps I went to Friedrichshafen to the Outdoor Show. There I had the chance to meet lots of ohter blogger from Europe like Hendrik from Hiking in Finland and Phil Turner from UK and all the German ones. The Outdoor Show is one highlight of the year. There are so many people from all over the world and is nice to stay in contact with all these people from the companies.

My highlight of the year was not really a backpacking trip. I made a late honeymoon trip to Canada with my wife. It was so exciting. We had a camper and made a trip of 2500 kilometers through the Rocky Mountains and other National Parks. On that trip we made many day trips as possible to see this superb country and If I could get the chance and the money I would go there again.

One week after the Canada trip there was again a Meeting of our UL Community. This time it was a special meeting because there was a LAUFBURSCHE keynote and we could get in touch with the new packs for 2014.

The year came slowly to an end, but there was still time for one last trip and while there was not really much snow I decided to make again a winter trip. I was very proud that Jotaro from Locus Gear and a good friend accompanied me. It was a pleasure for us that Jotaro came the whole way from Japan to go hiking with us and one week before with Hendrik. Thanks for the great trip Jotaro.

No review without a preview for the year 2014.
This year will change my private life a bit, because I am becoming dad. Before that happens I try to write as many articles as possible, because after that I need a time out to spend time with my family. So this year I am not at the Outdoor Show and trips are very limited.
But there are some other good news. There will be another writer on my blog with a complete new category, but I don’t know when he wanna starts writing. Think it could be autumn.

Last but not least I wanna thank everyone for the support during the last year and I hope you will remain my loyal readers. For those who don’t know I have a Facebook Fanpage and I am on Twitter where you can follow me.
