SUL in the Mountains

Posted on 27 Juni 2013

Meanwhile I had the chance to visit the Engadine mountains several time, but only in spring and winter. After our cancelled trip around New Year we decided to come back for a summer trip to see all these beautiful flowers and other things of the Engadine. Some weeks ago I contacted Marius and we planned this trip. I imagined a relaxed trip with extensive and delicious cooking. We planned this trip exactly in that time when BPL published all these interesting articles about SUL backpacking and after some days Marius released his Gear List on our German UL Community. He released a really cool SUL gear list for this trip and I had normal standard summer gear list in my mind with a baseweight of around 3,8-4kg. This is anything, but not SUL. SUL means a baseweight of 5 pounds or 2286g.

Now he had awakened my ambition to reach also a baseweight under these magic 2286g. After a long time I finally reached the goal and here is my list.

OK this list has a lot of potential, but for the moment I’m happy with it. With a lighter pack I could save around 150g and if I would use the quilt in camp as insulation I could leave the down vest at home and would save further weight. What do you think of this list? Feel free and leave a comment.
