Back From The Trail With Some Short Gear Impressions

Posted on 11 April 2010

I’m back from the Vosges and it was a fantastic trip. We had sunshine all the time and the Vosges are an excellent region for a hiking trip. I could test lots of gear and a few gear reviews will follow in the next time. First of all I want to post some impressions. We started our tour in Wissembourg and finished in Saverne. This is a distance from round about 135 kilometers on the GR53. First we had planned to finish the trip in Schirmeck, but the distance from Saverne to Schirmeck was too long to walk it in 3 days. So we finished the trip on Friday morning in Saverne.

Laufbursche huckePACK: The huckePACK is phenomenal. He offers plenty of space for your gear. The shoulder straps are very comfortable. The lightweight materials which LAUFBURSCHE used are very stable. I love this pack
ZPacks Hexamid: 290g with stakes and lines. That’s a really good weight for a silnylon shelter. The Hexamid offers enough space for sleeping and your gear in the night and the set up is very easy.
Trail Designs Ti-Tri with Inferno:
It was my first time to cook with a wood stove on tour. It’s a great pleasure to collect wood when you have arrived the camp and start the stove for a warm meal and a cup of tea.
Patagonia Simple Guide Pants:
Light and stretchy pants, but a little bit to warm for temperatures above 20° C. The pant dries very quickly and is very strainable.
Montane Featherlight Smock:
Very small and lightweight windshirt. I like it very much. A good option on windy days.
Rab Ultra Bivy:
Protects your sleeping bag from dirt and wetness. Perfect price performance ratio. Weighs 202g. Only with zipper on the right side available.
Panasonic Lumix GF1:
This camera is unbelievable. I like the MFT system very much. The kit objective did a great job, but it’s time for the next step. I need the lighter Pancake objective for a more compact and lighter setup.

If there is a special interest on one of these gear parts let me know it. I’ll write these gear review as soon as possible.

Any idea when the Laufbursche website will go live?

I packed my Simple Guides away for the winter now and replaced them with the Traverse pants. Both awesome.

Ti-Tri classic or the newer ulc? I like the ulc concept but it seems that the ulc ist not as efficient as the classic caldera…I’m very indecisive to buy one yet.

I’ve got the classic Ti-Tri with the inferno
